The composer, second pass

2 min read

The composer held the folder in the field, picked the agent from tabs, and put the to-do list in a strip above the field. Workspaces and the work that comes back from the agent changed all three. The composer now describes a job for the factory (which repositories, which branch, which agent) more than a chat in one folder.

What changed#

Three parts were replaced, and each one is below with why.

[ CHANGES ]
  • folder in the fieldpill
  • agent tabspicker
  • to-do striplist
  • workspace belowrow
  • agent, then modelpicker
  • to-dos capsulechip

The rest of the composer works as before.

The workspace, below the field#

The folder picker is now the workspace, in a row under the field with where the agent runs and its branch. The field is about the message, and the workspace changes less often than the message, so it sits below it, quieter. The layout was picked after trying the row inside the field and above it.

[ WHERE ]
firstnow
  • in the field✓–
  • multi-repo–✓
  • worktrees–✓

@ mentions a file from any repository in the workspace. A file in an added repository shows that repository's name under it.

Chips only for work#

A branch chip shows only for a repository with work on its branch: commits, a pull request or conflicts. A new branch with nothing on it said nothing, and a workspace of three repositories showed three of them.

To-dos as a capsule#

The to-do list was a strip above the field. It grew with every item, moved the field up while the agent worked, and sat on top of the changes chip. It is now a capsule in the same row: a tick per item, how many are done, and the current one. The list opens from it.

Agent, then model#

The model picker had one tab per agent. Tabs showed one agent at a time and had no place for an agent that isn't installed.

Now the current agent's models come first, each with what it is for and the recommended one tagged. The other agents are rows with their model count or Not installed, and each opens on its own page. Search covers every agent.
